Team leaders play an important role in coordinating volunteering events. This article explains what team leaders are, how to assign them, and who is considered the team leader before an assignment takes place.
What are team leaders?
A team leader is a volunteer who takes on additional responsibilities to help coordinate an event.
Team leaders may:
Act as the main point of contact for other volunteers.
Communicate updates from the volunteer coordinator to the team.
Support attendance tracking and team coordination on the day of the event.
How do I express interest in becoming a team leader for an event?
When registering for a volunteering event, you may be asked whether you'd like to be considered as team leader.
When you'll see this question: The question "Do you want to be a team leader for this session?" only appears if you are registering yourself for the session — whether you're registering just yourself, or yourself along with other people.
You will not see this question for the following reasons:
- You are registering a single other person and not yourself.
- You are registering multiple other people and not yourself.
- You are registering a public volunteer, or someone who is not a company employee.

Once a team leader is assigned, they take on the coordination role.
How is a team leader assigned?
- Among employees who have expressed interest, an admin will assign a team leader out of the pool.
- Once assigned, you will receive an email confirmation outlining your specific responsibilities as team leader.
- Admins have the ability to reassign the role. If an admin chooses to assign a different team leader, you will see
Note: You can only nominate yourself as team leader during the registration process. You cannot nominate someone else you are registering for as team leader. If you are registering for someone else who wish to be team leader, let your volunteer coordinator know by sending them an email of interest. You may also include a note as part of the registration process.
